We have come to the conclusion that Matty HATES rice cereal. After 4 attempts and 4 fits, we decided to move on to something new so Mommy bought a sweet potato at the store and she cooked and pureed it up for him. So far, he seems to like it. There is definitely more texture and a hint of sweetness. We can usually get 8-10 spoonfuls in before he's had enough ( 4-5 times more than we got with the cereal). He still drools it out quite a bit as you can see from the pictures but we are getting somewhere! I put the spoon down on the tray and he bent down and tried to suck on the spoon....

Jump Up Jump Up and Get Down!
We put Matthew's Jumparoo together for him finally. He really enjoyed it and likes that if he moves just right it lights up and plays music. He always wants to stand, we just get tired of holding him that way all the time. He's getting more and more independent everyday and you can tell he just wants to be able to move from point A to point B.

Matthew's 5 Month Birthday!
First of all, he finally got the toy that Uncle Troy gave him before he was even born! It was a Christmas gift to Mommy and Daddy last year. Its one of those 3 stage toys that goes from sit and play to a rocker to a bike. It makes lots of noise but it also has alot of educational and interactive stuff that makes it worth it. At this point, he likes the way it tastes and that it plays music that Mommy can sing along to.
Today we also decided to try him on cereal for the first time. We knew this would be a bit of a challenge as it usually is for the first time with all babies. Especially Matthew since he still won't take a bottle. The first few bites he looked at us like "what the heck is going on?" but he took the cereal and drooled a bit out (though he he didn't push it out with his tongue, good sign) and then would suck on his bib for a minute. By the 4th spoonful, he was over it and started yelling at us- which we found quite amusing. I saved the remaining few teaspoons of cereal in the fridge so I may try to finish it up later. Tomorrow, we'll have Daddy feed him.

21 Weeks Old
Matthew had his well baby check up this morning. Since he had his appointments with the urologist at the time that would normally be his 4 month exam, everything got pushed back a month. He's weighing in at 15 lbs 13 oz- he's held steady for a month in the weight department, which is good. He's also 25.5 inches long- he's grown 6.5 inches since he was born. He's in the 50th percentile exactly for both height and weight, which is perfectly average. Since his kidneys are doing well, we got the go ahead to start him on cereal and other solids now. We have to put the high chair together but once we do that we'll get started on cereal sometime this week. Stay tuned for those pictures!
Matthew is now rolling over in both directions and scooting across the floor. He has the strength to crawl but not the coordination. He can sit up as long as he's supported and he can reach forward if he wants something. He has this overall need to go go go. He's got the desire to just be able to get where he wants to go and sometimes he gets so frustrated.

Beach Blanket Baby

Matthew's first trip to the beach! We packed up the car and headed west to Camp Pendleton's Del Mar Beach for the afternoon. He seemed to like the experience as he loves to see new things. The lull of the ocean really relaxed him though it took awhile to get him to go down for a nap he was really well behaved. We let him put his toes in the water and he wasn't sure what to think about that but he didn't cry so we know he didn't hate it. This is definitely something we are going to do more often since it was a great way to get out of the AC in Temecula and enjoy the summer sun.
