Matthew's Mother's Day Portraits

These were taken in early April and he was about 6 weeks old. I didn't want to post these until now so we didn't ruin the surprise.

Jen's 1st Mother's Day

Grandma's Mohawk Baby

Bumpin' Heads w/ Uncle Mikey

Sunday was a special day. We packed up and went to Big Bear for an overnight trip to see my parents. Tony got me some great stuff but the best stuff of all was the present that doesn't cost money- the promise to do a deep cleaning on the house this coming weekend. I'm good at keeping the house organized and clean on the surface but the base boards and door frames haven't been done since my first trimester! He's going to do windows, hang stuff on the walls, etc. He's also taking my car into have it detailed as it hasn't been washed since the baby was born!

We had portraits taken of Matthew for my Mom, Grandma and Tony's sisters and they came out great. Tony picked up a couple of 10x13s for me and we'll get them framed and matted this weekend. As Tony hadn't had a day off in 2 weeks when Mother's Day rolled around, he's going to do most of the chores this coming week. His new days off are now Sunday and Monday which is something to get used to.

Roll Over Beethoven!

This morning, I heard Matthew stir in his crib around 6:15am, around our normal wake up time. On my way down the hall to his room, I hear him really start to wail. I walk in and find him on his side. He managed to roll there on his own and it scared him. This evening after a nap, we hear him start to scream bloody murder and realize he had completely flipped himself over and scared the living daylights out of himself. Our little man is a strong guy and already doing this at 10.5 weeks. Perhaps a future linebacker for our beloved Chargers?

Wild Blue Yonder

This weekend was the Air Show at March Air Force Base. Tony had to work it as he is a cop in the Reserves. He had to pull some long hours but in between breaking up fights and sending rednecks to the drunk tank, he took some awesome pictures. Matthew and I stayed home since the one time we took him to the base, the planes scared him with the loud engines. Maybe next year!

Welcome Hayden Scott Dickey

My cousin Belinda and her husband Gordon had their first baby last week. Belinda and I are only 4 months apart and though we were raised 1800 miles apart, we are a lot alike! Its really special to us that we both had boys and that they are only 2 months apart.

Hayden Scott was born on April 22 at 8:34pm weighing in at 8lbs 8oz.
Thanks to Belinda's sister in law (and my cousin in law), Breanna, taking these pics so I could poach them from her myspace page.

Happy Birthday Dad St Nick!

Today is Tony's dad's 72nd birthday! Hope you have a great one!

Two Month Update!

Well, we took Matthew for his 2 month check up. He weighs in at 14lbs 9oz, so the nursing is going well. He is in the 96th percentile for his weight...he's still in a healthy range but if he weighed much more he'd be "overweight". The pediatrician says that since it is all from breastmilk, she won't worry about it. He's 22.75 inches long which puts him at the 43rd percentile, a little below average but since he has 2 short parents and he's still in the healthy range, she isn't worried. She was thrilled to hear that he is sleeping through the night now! He has been for about 3 weeks. On average, he lets us sleep from 12-6, sometimes even longer. He did get his shots today and he took it like a trooper. Since the appointment was during the time of his midmorning nap, he right to sleep by the time we got to the car after his shots were done. He did scream like a Banshee when Nurse Peggy stuck him with 4 needles. We have to go back on Monday for one more, but the doc wanted to split them up a bit. The pics are from yesterday when we were playing between his morning naps. Mommy was doing housework and was still in her PJs, so please excuse me. We are staying close to home until the heatwave subsides, its been in the high 90s the last few days. We are skipping our walks until at least tomorrow and I'm using this time to get caught up on my scrapbooking while Matthew takes naps.

8 Weeks Old

Its hard to believe Matthew is 2 months old already! In many ways it seems like just yesterday but then again I've done my best to block out the hell that was labor so it seems like it was further away. He's definitely trying to talk to us now with coo's and baby language. Sometimes when daddy makes noises at him, Matthew tries to mimic that noise. His eyesight is getting sharper each day and last night he discovered the ceiling fan. Daddy went back to work yesterday and I miss the extra help but luckily Matthew's nap schedule is more regular now and he gives me lots of breaks. He's easy to deal with but my back still isn't 100% so I need the breaks. On a personal note, I've started Weight Watchers again and off to a good start so far. We've been good about walking but I want to start incorporating swimming also. The doctor said no abdominal work at all until the baby is 4 months old. My labor and C-section were pretty traumatic and he doesn't want me to over do it. Since Dr Y is a fitness buff, I'll take his word for it but I can't wait to get rid of this spare tire!

First Trip to the Mountains

hanging out with grandpa

Lou-Dog checks out the baby

Making faces at Grandma

We were worried about how this would go, but it went great! Matthew is sleeping through the night better so we thought we would give it a chance. He did well in the porta crib and only woke up once during the night. Since we all were in the same room, letting him cry himself to sleep was hard because I couldn't tune it out. I intended to bring my iPod but I forgot it.

Its Grandma Beverly's 80th Birthday!

Here's a salute to the awesomest Grandma to ever walk the planet. She loves to have a good time and has the best sense of humor. Wish we could be up in Portland to help her celebrate but hopefully we can make it up there soon!

Padres Opening Night 3/31/08

Part of our season tickets package included tickets to Opening Night and I was really nervous because this kid can squawk when he's over stimulated and too many people are around. Tony wouldn't take no for an answer so we went. Matthew did great! Tony put him in the Baby Bjorn with his Padres cap (courteousy of Auntie Shannen) on backwards and away we went. He made it to the 6th inning (about 9pm) when he started to fuss and you really couldn't hear him anyways. He basically slept through it all. We went ahead and took off because it was getting cold in the nosebleed seats we were in (we don't get to sit in our normal seats until Friday) and he needed to eat anyways, easier to do in a warm car.

Weekend Visitors

On Saturday, my cousin Susie drove my Great-Aunt Barbara out to Temecula from Huntington Beach to see Matthew. That would make her Matthew's Great Great Aunt. On Sunday, Becky and Sandy Jensen came over to see him. Then on Monday, Auntie Shannen came out to visit and cut Mommy's hair.
